Indie rock duo Tegan and Sara began 2013 as the indie rock scene’s hottest new women to watch.
The band, consisting of twin sisters Tegan and Sara Qun, was formed in their childhood basement in the early 90’s. Their first album, Under Feet Like Ours, was released independently in 1997. Seven more studio albums have followed. However, the Canada natives received their first Grammy nomination in 2013 for their 2011 DVD release Get Along.
The duo’s music has been featured on TV shows of the likes of Grey’s Anatomy, The L Word, Parenthood, Girls, The Vampire Diaries and One Tree Hill. So what’s different about the 2013 album Heartthrob? After all, there has been quite a bit of controversy among Tegan and Sara fans due to their switch up from indie rock into pop.
Sara Quin offered her opinion on the subject in an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine. “We really built a thick skin and built our own audience and learned everything we possibly could about the business…If we’re meant to have the kind of success that a big pop single would bring, then I think that we’re probably the most capable and the most qualified we’ve ever been at dealing with it.”
Tegan and Sara are currently on tour with upcoming Fall 2013 shows with Fun.
